Microtech Knives
Deryk DC Munroe is the main source of engineering and labor for MunroeKnives. A lifelong fascination with weaponry led him to create his first knife in 1984. He followed a somewhat convoluted path to becoming a full-time knifemaker in 1997. He has explored and evolved the various aspects of the craft which has driven him ever since. His style is unique and the quality of his folders is simply superb. So, it was an obvious choice for Tony to work with Deryk on this second Munroe/Marfione collaboration knife, the Cypher.
The Cypher is a stylish OTF Automatic with a hand-filling, solid feeling and fantastic streamlined shape. However, it’s the finer details like the milled pattern on the handle that perfectly matches the milling you find on the pocket clip and the perfectly executed thumb slide that make this knife so appealing. It’s one of the larger Microtech Automatic models, though it carries and feels like a much more compact knife in the hand. The razor-sharp Wharncliffe blade of the MK7 Cypher model features a thumb slot cut out reminiscent of the Sigil MK6 and it flies out of the handle and retracts with just the slide of the thumb. Microtech has some if not the best OTF action on the market and this Cypher MK7 is simply spectacular. Deryk Munroe and Tony Marfione have one impressive high-end tactical knife here, one that really gives you an insight into how nice out the front AUTOs can be.
