In a time when numerous grinding centers, the so-called Kotten, stood along the Wupper. On natural sand, driven by hydroelectric power, blades were cut here.

As early as the beginning of the nineteenth century there were exactly 93 grinding cattle and six hammer forges on the banks of the Wupper. It was the invention of the steam engine that triggered the turn in blade processing. It was no longer dependent on water power.
